Ocean Waves

We sat there on the life guard’s stand
With the waves
The three of us
Captivated
One was looking back
Towards the lights of town
Toward her house
And the voices
Anything to escape her family
The other stared up
Her mind amongst the stars
Anything to escape her life
Her eyes sparkled with reflection of nothingness
Of the dust and ice
Of the giant formations made by so little
Her heart and eyes traveled hard to get there
The emptiness was with her
I looked out at the waves
Rushing back and forth
How they each made a small motion
Eating the sand
Yet each individual was swallowed up
Quickly forgotten and forced back into the mass
I turned toward the moon
So close to us
Rising in a fog
Appearing as though the devil cursed it
She gazed back
At the three of us
There, trying to escape.
